CACRE 2026 Astana Additional Social Events
During CACRE 2026, we are pleased to offer additional social activities that provide participants with further networking opportunities and a chance to explore Astana. Please note that these activities are not included in the conference registration fee. Participants wishing to join are required to register separately and cover the associated expenses.
I. Overview
Astana is one of the world's youngest capitals, known for its distinctive contemporary architecture and unique combination of modern urban development and Kazakh cultural heritage. This one-day tour introduces participants to some of the city's most recognizable cultural and architectural landmarks while providing an opportunity to experience local cuisine and culture.
Tour Date: August 20, 2026, 10:00 – 21:00 (Dinner at your own arrangement; free time after the tour)
II. Detailed Itinerary
Please note: The times indicated below include transportation between the scheduled locations. Actual visiting times may vary slightly depending on traffic and waiting times.
(A) Morning: Futuristic Architecture Tour (10:00 – 12:30)

Overview: Nur-Astana Mosque is one of Astana's prominent religious and architectural landmarks. Its white exterior, golden dome, and four minarets make it one of the city's recognizable architectural sights. Visiting Notes: Open to visitors outside prayer times. Visitors are requested to dress modestly. Clothing should cover the arms and legs, and women should cover their hair while inside the mosque. Headscarves may be available for visitors if needed. Duration: Approx. 40 minutes Admission: Free |

Overview: Astana's most iconic landmark, standing 105 meters tall. The golden egg at its top is inspired by Kazakh mythology—the mythical bird Samruk lays a golden egg in the crown of the Tree of Life, symbolizing the nation's future and rebirth. Highlights: From the observation deck at 97 meters (corresponding to the 1997 relocation of the capital), enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. Place your hand on the presidential handprint to make a wish—the national anthem will play, adding a ceremonial touch. Duration: Approx. 1 hour 20 minutes (including queuing and viewing) |
(B) Lunch Break (12:30 – 14:00)
Recommended Dining Venue 1: Navat – Central Asian-style chaikhana offering traditional and regional dishes (Dostyq Street 13, near the Baiterek area).
Recommended Dining Venue 2: Astana Nury Restaurant – located on the banks of the Ishim River, offering riverfront views and a blend of Kazakh, Central Asian, Caucasian, and European dishes (Respublika Avenue 3/2, near Atyrau Bridge).
Recommended Dishes:
- Beshbarmak: Kazakhstan's "national dish"—horse or mutton served with wide noodles, rich in nomadic flavor
- Plov: A popular Central Asian rice dish prepared with meat and vegetables
- Kazy: Traditional cured horse meat sausage
- Baursak: Traditional Kazakh fried dough, perfect with tea
- Kuyrdak: Traditional Kazakh dish made with fried meat, potatoes, and onions (available at Astana Nury)

(C) Afternoon: Cultural Immersion (14:00 – 16:30)

Overview: A leading national museum in Central Asia with a modern architectural design. Its collection spans from the Stone Age to modern Kazakhstan. The crown jewel is the "Golden Warrior" unearthed from the Issyk burial mound, along with exhibits on nomadic culture and the development of the capital. Duration: Approx. 1 hour 40 minutes (recommended focus on 2–3 core exhibition halls) |

Overview: Designed by British architect Norman Foster, the pyramid-shaped Palace of Peace and Reconciliation is one of Astana's most distinctive examples of contemporary architecture. Inside, it houses an opera house and a religious conference hall. Sunlight filtering through the stained glass creates a stunning interplay of light and shadow. Duration: Approx. 25 minutes |
(D) Evening: Shopping & Dinner (16:30 – 21:00)
16:30 – 17:45 Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center
- Overview: The world's largest tent-shaped structure, housing a shopping mall, supermarket, dining areas, and even an indoor beach. The building itself is a futuristic marvel and a perfect finale to the one-day tour.
- Highlights:
- Explore the distinctive interior architecture
- Shop for souvenirs or local products
- Enjoy a short period of free time
17:45 – 21:00 MEGA Silk Way & Dinner
- Overview: Located near Nazarbayev University, MEGA Silk Way is one of Astana's largest shopping and entertainment centers, offering a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafés, a cinema, an ice rink, and other leisure facilities.
- Highlights:
- Dinner at one of the restaurants or cafes
- Shopping and souvenirs
- Free time for leisure and entertainment
III. Important Notes
- Please dress modestly when visiting the mosque (long sleeves, long pants, and headscarf for women)
- August in Astana is warm during the day but cool in the evenings—bring a light jacket
- Sun protection is recommended (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
- Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports may enter Kazakhstan visa-free for up to 30 days
